Background

  • A 2024 Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs survey found approximately 540,000 socially isolated youth in Korea. Over 80% want to overcome their isolation, yet more than half have never received any support.
    • Primary causes of isolation: employment failure (24.1%) and interpersonal difficulties (23.5%). Life satisfaction is about half that of general youth. Social losses are estimated at ₩7 trillion annually.
  • Existing programs were government-led and face-to-face — paradoxically creating high barriers for isolated youth. Concluded that a non-face-to-face, anonymous, step-by-step approach would be the key differentiator.

Execution

Product Planning & PM

  • Designed a 2-stage social adaptation curriculum: Stage 1 (Social Adaptation Training) — text simulation, AI role-play chat, user matching dialogue / Stage 2 (Social Participation Training) — AI job consulting, institution links, daily newsletter.
  • Established subscription model (₩6,900/month for adaptation, ₩9,900/month for participation) and 3-phase growth strategy (B2C → tech stabilization → B2B), including 3-year revenue projections.
    • Prepared a P&L statement projecting ₩5.63M net profit in year 1, scaling to ₩309.87M by year 3.

UI/UX Design & Frontend Development

  • Built the complete design system in Figma — from wireframes and style guides to detailed UI elements like icons and buttons.
  • Implemented 40+ pages in React, integrated Spring Boot backend APIs (registration, newsletter, OpenAI) and Kakao Maps API. (3-person team, GBT capstone project)

Results

  • Achieved overall usefulness score of 8.9 (exceeding 8.0 target) in market testing with 26 participants. Weekly challenge received the highest rating (9.4), and AI role-play chat was praised for minimizing aversion to real conversation.
  • Completed the service planning, UI/UX design, and 40-page frontend build, and delivered the final presentation and demo.

What I learned

  • One principle — contactless and anonymous — decided the whole service. For reclusive youth, a low doorstep beats a good program; fittingly, the least demanding feature, the weekly check-in challenge, scored highest (9.4) in testing.
  • 38.5% of testers said the price was a burden, so we lowered the subscription fee. It was a 26-person test, but we put user responses ahead of our own hypothesis and adjusted the price.
